Fitness centres to undergo major refurbishment

The fitness centres at Cook + Phillip Park Pool, Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre and Victoria Park Pool will be going through some exciting changes to improve your workout experience.

The fitness centres at Cook + Phillip Park Pool, Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre and Victoria Park Pool will undergo major refurbishments and upgrades to equipment.

Our teams have listened to our 360 members feedback, and each fitness centre has been designed to optimise and maximise the workout experience.

After the launch of the new state-of-the-art fitness centre at Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre in early 2021, it is exciting to be ending 2021 with major upgrades to the other fitness centres across Sydney.

Upgrades include;

  • New layout and dedicated zones
  • New strength & cardio machines
  • New spin bikes in spin studios (Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre and Victoria Park Pool)
  • New audio sound system in group fitness studios
  • New group fitness equipment, including the Les Mills Smartbar
  • New and upgraded flooring
  • Electrical upgrades

During the refurbishment period, there will be some short-term, temporary closures of each fitness centre. To minimise disruption this will be via a staggered closure approach to ensure 360 members can leverage their reciprocal access to other centres.

Timeline of refurbishment and gym closures
The fitness centre at Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre will close between Monday 22 November and Sunday 28 November. The fitness centre will re-open on Monday 29 November.
The fitness centre at Cook + Phillip Park Pool will close between Monday 29 November and Friday 3 December. The fitness centre will re-open on Saturday 4 December.
The fitness centre at Victoria Park Pool will close between Monday 6 December and Wednesday 8 December. The fitness centre will re-open on Thursday 9 December.
Impacts to Group Fitness
Ian Thorpe Aquatic CentreAll group fitness classes, excluding aqua classes, will be paused during the closure period.
Cook + Phillip Park PoolFunctional training including GOLD, HIIT and Athlete will be paused during the closure period. Yoga, Pilates and Aqua classes will continue to run as per current timetable.
Victoria Park PoolAll group fitness classes will continue to run during the closure period.

During the refurbishment period, all 360 fitness members can utilise the reciprocal access to the fitness centres at all City of Sydney locations including Cook + Phillip Park Pool, Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre and Victoria Park Pool, as well as group fitness classes at Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool and Prince Alfred Park Pool.
