The Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre (ITAC) has an 8 lane 50 metre lap swimming pool, 1 leisure pool and 1 programs pool. The Health Club located on level one has a large range of cardio equipment and free weights, a dedicated spin room and group fitness room timetabled for a variety of fitness classes. On level two, the sauna and steam room are located next to the program pool.
Both the 389 and the 501 buses stop and pick up within 200 metres from the entrance of ITAC. The closest bus stops are located on Harris Street. The closest train station is Town Hall Station, approximately 1.2kms and a 20-minute walk away.
The light railway stops and picks up at the rear of the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre. There are several steps leading from the platform to lift level.

If you are driving, there is parking available underneath the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre. Access to this is via Pyrmont Street. There is a shallow inclined ramp leaving the car park suitable for wheelchairs and mobility aids which leads to a lift. Entry to the centre is on level 2. There are also 2 flights of stairs leading from the entrance of the car park to the main pedestrian entrance to ITAC for those not requiring the lift.
There is also paid 1 and 2 hour parking available in the surrounding streets of ITAC, some of which becomes clearways during certain time of the day, so please check signs.
There is no designated set down area for taxis and private vehicles at the front of ITAC. It may be possible during certain times of the day when clearways are not in operation to set down opposite the centre on Harris Street.
It is possible to set down at the rear of the centre via Pyrmont Street. This would provide access to the lift.
The pathway to the main pedestrian entrance includes a shallow decline from the footpath from Harris Street to the ITAC entrance. ITAC has step free access at reception. The doorway includes 2 sliding doors glass doors at entry.
There is an alternative entrance at the rear of the building and closest if taking the lift, though there is a step that leads from lift level to this door and is not appropriate for wheel chair access. This entrance consists of a single out swinging door.
ITAC reception desk is level with and directly opposite the entrance. The desk is not at a wheelchair accessible height but staff will assist in any way possible to promote ease of access.
There are male and female changing rooms and toilets, as well as unisex family change rooms and accessible change rooms throughout the centre. Dedicated members lockers are located in the change rooms on level one, opposite the Health Club.
There are 2 flights of stairs leading from the entrance to the car park to the main entrance to the centre, these are wide steps with handrails on both sides.
From reception access to the 50-metre lap swimming pool is accessible via a set of steps to the pool deck or via a shallow inclined ramp.
Access to the health club on level 1 is accessible via stairs located to the right past the sliding doors at reception.
There is 1 lift at ITAC. This is situated to the rear of the building and accessible via Pyrmont Street at the entry to the car park. If required, it is possible to travel via the lift to the different levels at ITAC, though as the lift is external exiting and re-entering the building is required to do so
If wheelchair access is required to the gym, customers are asked to firstly make their way to reception to pay or to swipe their membership card and are then asked to take the lift to level 1 where they will enter via the door on the gym floor level by using the intercom.
There is ramp access to the program pool, and an aqua wheelchair is available if required. If required there is a mobility ladder and accessibility hoist situated in the shallow end of the 50-metre lap swimming pool. Please notify staff if you require assistance in accessing the pool with the aid of the hoist.
There is no hearing loop available at ITAC.
